Florida · 2025 federal returns
Filing taxes in Florida: only your federal return
Florida has no personal income tax, so a full-year Florida resident has no state return to file. What you do file is your 2025 federal return, Form 1040. Vordana Tax walks you through it online, in English or Spanish, gives it a free review and e-files it to the IRS.

Florida has no personal income tax
The Florida Department of Revenue says it plainly: the State of Florida does not have a personal income tax. Your wages, tips, business income, pension and Social Security are reported only on your federal return.
With a Florida home address, the interview adds no state return to yours.
Your federal return (Form 1040), start to finish
- Form 1040 and the schedules your answers need, from W-2 wages and 1099 work to rentals, retirement income and Social Security benefits.
- Federal credits such as the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit, figured from your answers.
- A free review before it is filed, then e-filed to the IRS.
Moved to Florida in 2025?
The state you left may still expect a part-year return for the months you lived there. If it was California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York or Pennsylvania, add it in the interview and we prepare that part-year return from the same answers.
We don't prepare returns for other states yet. If you lived in or earned income in one of them, that state's tax agency explains what to file.
Itemizing? Deduct sales tax instead
Floridians pay no state income tax to deduct, so if you itemize on Schedule A you can deduct the general sales taxes you paid in its place. The interview asks which you are claiming and checks the Schedule A box for you.
In Spanish, with your refund by Direct Deposit
The whole interview is available in Spanish. Add your bank account and your federal refund can go straight into it by Direct Deposit.
Questions
Does Florida have a state tax return?
Not for individual income. Florida has no personal income tax, so a person who lived in Florida all year files only the federal return. A state where you lived or earned income earlier in the year may still expect one.
I moved to Florida from New York. What do I file?
Your federal return, plus, when New York requires one, a New York part-year resident return (Form IT-203) for the months you lived in New York. We prepare both from one interview.
What if I owe the IRS?
If you owe and can't pay at once, you can request a federal payment plan inside your return. The IRS decides whether to approve it, and IRS fees and interest may apply.
